I'm really loving this game, and am very impressed with the way they've approached. The story mode is split into episodes, which kinda reminds me of left 4 dead style campaigns, there's 6 i think, and each one takes a good long while to finish. The co op is really good, as the AI is pretty weak but 4 people can breeze through the game easy. It's got a little bit of a Gears of War feel with the way the characters run, and getting behind cover is a very good tactic!!
The combat reminds me of F.E.A.R. as there's a lot of battles with slightly different objectives, like kill all enemies, or activate all data posts. Unlike lost planet 1 where you could be running for quite a while with no combat, this is pure combat!! More then once we found ourselves pinned down by massive amounts of fire and being swarmed by vs, or being nearly overrun by akrid, although it wasn't really that hard to survive on normal.
I'm really looking forward to playing this game on the harder difficulties just for the challenge! weapons and vs carry over chapter to chapter, but you lose them at the end of each episode, so you can end up in the same vs for a whole episode, swapping weapons as you go its brilliant! The online mp is very similar to the first game, I found searching for a large map guaranteed plenty of vs, but its very hard the level of play is extremely high so expect to get your butt kicked at first. the graphics are beautiful with so far quite a few varied akrid, ive played the first episode completely, and half of the 2nd, but the 2nd is mainly dealing with pirates not been as many akrid, hopefully more of them in the later chapters!
I must comment on the critics all giving this a score of 5-6/10 i do feel these reviews are going too far, and are being negative just to be popular. so far ive played episodes 1-4 and the first was by far the most akrid filled, and so far through the other chapters there seems to be massive lack of akrid except for a few massively beautiful cat g's. although it is a bit annoying constantly fighting humans when you want to see akrid, its still a very enjoyable game. theres a lot of varied vs to battle and lots of different areas to battle in. There are 3 seater vs, which accomadate 1 driver and 2 gunners which can be a very useful mecha to use. reading other reviewers they say this shooter is dated and not to 2010's standards, i really disagree with this, alot of ideas are borrowed from other games, and i feel this is a great shooter in a class of its own. Im finding it really hard to put down as its really satisfying when u have a squad on mics one with a shield with a someone backing him up, a sniper in the back picking of easy head sets, and someone in a vs giving heavy support. theres an underwater level and although i generally hate anything underwater i found this tolerable and still enjoyable. A lack of akrid yes, but a very varied shooter, with lots going for it beautiful graphics, great giant akrid bosses.
Overall a stunning game which has taken alot from other successful titles, which goes to show you that Capcom is still a progressive games company and still able to churn out amazing game after game! I've been looking forward to this game for some time, especially as it was co op and i have not been disappointed. i got it for a bargain £25 and feel its worth it, massive improvement and great fun, faster more action.
A must have game for sure!
