Yesterday I kept getting disc read errors playing GoW. I must have gotten 10 errors in one night. The thing is, I've been really careful with the disc since I bought the game 2 weeks ago. The only two places it has been is either the 360 or its case. I never dropped it, placed it anywhere face down, etc. I did notice that there were very faint scratches on the disc and sometimes light marks appear on it when I get a disc read error. All of which are removable with a micro fiber cloth that I use. Is it possible that the drive is causing the errors and not the disc? Is it possible that the drive is causing the marks? _________________________________________________________ I love my white and chrome 360!

Its possible that there is a fault with the disc itself, do any other games you have produce disc errors?
Hows your 360 setup, laid flat or upright? If the drive appears to be faintly marking the disc try playing the console in the upright and flat position to see if the problems and marking continue. _________________________________________________________ JAy3k1

I was at my wife's work Christmas party last Saturday and the guy that I was sitting beside said that he used to work for MS's tech support line (in Toronto I think) and he was saying one of the issues with the 360 drives (can't remember if it was from the Samsung/HItachi though) is that over time a layer of glue from the laser assembly goes down and covers the lens, so I'd assume that if the unit is off of warranty and you don't mind pulling your box apart check for something like that, it maybe as simple as cleaning it off. I know if I have any problems with my 360 I'll be calling him. lol

For GoW I do remember moving the console while the disk was in the tray but the console was off. From the time I had it in the fixed vertical position and changed games I haven't had the same problem.
I'm playing a rented Test Drive Unlimited right now and it game me a disk read error last night after 3 hours of play. I inspected the disc and there were faint fingerprints on it. After cleaning it I got back to my gaming session. I guess these drives are very sensitive to smudges. _________________________________________________________ I love my white and chrome 360!
